Piece 1
This piece (Little Vibrancy) is my pinch pot project. The task was to create a simple piece to learn basic techniques in creating ceramics.
The key skills and knowledge in this project included learning how to wedge clay to force air pockets out, watching a demonstration on how to build it, and slowly and carefully stretching it out once the base hole was in it. Some other important clay and design skills that this work addressed include basic skills such as wedging, and using a specific process to have your piece turn out correctly.
In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in creating symmetry but had challenges with keeping it light and simple and instead not using the clay to its full potential. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is you have to put in time no matter the circumstance to the smallest of details and that you should set a goal for yourself before you start.
In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of learning new techniques and creating a foundation for creating other types of ceramics, but need to continue working on utilizing clay to the best of my ability.

Piece 2
This piece (Sun Light) is my candle cage project. The task was to create something a candle can be placed under to give it a more artful look.
The key skills and knowledge in this project included score & slip, using measurements to create symmetry, and including designs that were inspired by Elements of Art and Design. Some other important clay and design skills that this work addressed include introducing a new type of ceramic skill and learn how to successfully put a design into something that will add to how it is used.
In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in having inspired designs that create rhythm in relation to shape but had challenges with creating a truly unique to my personality piece. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is .
In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how easily I was able to learn new techniques but need to continue working on careful construction in relation to how some of the lines came out rougher than what I would have wanted.

Piece 3
This piece (Natural Box) is my slab box project. The task was to create a container that was reminiscent of a rock giving it a nature-y type of feel.
The key skills and knowledge in this project included using a specific process of throwing it to make it semi flat, rolling it to make it evenly flat, forming/attaching it around a plastic bag which encompassed a rock, cutting it off and adding a flange to keep the lid on. Some other important clay and design skills that this work addressed include utilizing natural textures giving an effortless type of look.
In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in construction of a box but had challenges with creating the texture not only through the actual texture but through the glaze and pre-bisque designs as well. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that if you think you are done you should check over it again to make sure that you really cannot think of any other ways to make it more unique and eye catching.
In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of my contrasting colors but need to continue working on attention to detail when glazing to create a specific desired texture.

Piece 4
This piece (Misshapen Planter) is my coil form project. The task was to create a piece made of several layered coils at least eight inches in height.
The key skills and knowledge in this project included using previous knowledge of score & slip and using measurements to create shape, but most of what I did, I learned as I built it. Some other important clay and design skills that this work addressed include learning how to use a base, learning that it is not going to be exactly right the first time, and that you have to keep a certain balance throughout so that it can be a functioning piece.
In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in maintaining a functional structure and giving a serene texture, but had challenges with time management in that there is supposed to be a wave design but I rushed too much picking colors so that when it was fired the design got muddied into the background color. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that even if you put time and effort into something the outcome may not be equal to what you put in.
In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of the structure and construction methods I was able to incorporate, but need to continue working on application of glaze to give a more professional look.

Piece 5
This piece (Abstract Recognition) is my self directed project. The task was to create something that was unique, personal, and inspired as well as to express yourself through ceramics.
The key skills and knowledge in this project included learning why you should have a plan and a time for each element instead of mashing things together and not getting what you wanted out of it. Some other important clay and design skills that this work addressed include learning how to teach yourself a new way of thinking about something to create artistry through a piece.
In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in using a fluid pattern and colors that pop but had challenges with time management. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that I spent too much time thinking instead of doing which caused me to fall behind and not reach any of my goals to their full potentials.
In reflecting on this piece, I ]need to continue working on overall planning, inspiration, utilizing my tools, and sticking to the plan.
