WATERCOLOR
This painting is one of my self-directed landscape projects. The task was to explore the seven step process and use new/different techniques, especially if you were a beginner. The key skills and knowledge in this project included learning how to effectively mix color/water into a ratio that gave you the correct shade and value in order to learn how to create shadows and highlights. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include discovering what kind of style/artistry I like to incorporate into my pieces to make them unique and personal. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in creating a realistic landscape including texture and shadows but had challenges with incorporating a certain type of artistry and giving the sky an even tone. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that I need to focus on creating the larger and lighter valued areas before starting details (seven step process). In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how well I did for it being my second painting in this class, but need to continue working on having a plan so as not to skip ahead.

11" x 7" Piece 4This painting is my still life project. The task was to mimic a scene that was presented to you. The key skills and knowledge in this project included knowing when to work faster on something versus taking your time. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include using a drawing to create a rough sketch, and using my materials to the best of my ability. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in mimicking a scene and drawing a good rough sketch to create what is now the final product but had challenges with mimicking light to create depth and complexity. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that I do not need to put nearly as much time into drawing as I do in painting the final project (using my time appropriately). In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how sharp the lines are and how much time I put into detailing to create a more effortless look, but need to continue working on time management.

This painting is one of my self-directed projects. The task was to choose images that inspired me and render one image from those among other planning methods as well. The key skills and knowledge in this project included learning why it is essential to have a plan before you start. This is because there leads to more purpose to your painting so that you continue to feel inspired to create it throughout the process. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include using an Element of Art in relation to an Element of Design. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in generating an abstract texture within something that is in real life, but had challenges with maintaining nice flow and sharper lines may have helped with that. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is you may not always like exactly what you set out to do in the first place, but you should persevere with it anyways. In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how much time and work I put into the piece but need to continue working on keeping a certain set of principles and goals in mind throughout the process.
This painting is my abstract project. The task was to discover new textures and make use of old ones we had previously learned. The key skills and knowledge in this project included using the golden spiral to lead the viewer's eye to a point of interest. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include thinking about art in an unusual way to create a one of a kind unique painting. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in utilizing strange textures to give off a weird vibe but had challenges with keeping in mind the seven step process even though there isn't really a background and foreground. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that not every art piece has to look a certain way to be artful. In reflecting on this piece, I realize that I enjoyed this process because of how different and easy it seemed but need to realize that not every piece has to have a lot of thought put into it.
This painting is one of my self-directed projects. The task was to choose something you were inspired by and generate an image based off of extensive planning. The key skills and knowledge in this project included were knowing how much time to spend on certain steps and when enough is enough. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include knowing what values and tones to place where to create an aesthetically pleasing piece that is relatable through the use of shadows/highlights and texture. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in creating a realistic painting while incorporating my own personal style but had challenges with using my time in appropriate places. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, because in trying to create perfection you may go over the line. In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how the colors flow so effortlessly together because of their undertones but need to continue working on detail.

This painting is my final self directed project. The task was to use several methods of planning and thought to prompt the creation of any image that was inspiring. The key skills and knowledge in this project included management of time so that I could focus on the final steps, detailing, rather than spending too much time on what I was going to paint. Some other important painting and design skills that this work addressed include use of dynamic colors and texture to institute depth/form and complexity. In my final product, you will notice that I succeeded in using fine details but had challenges with making an interesting background. What I learned while constructing and finishing this project is that I personally enjoy painting flowers and nature scenes that are minimal yet complex. In reflecting on this piece, I am proud of how much time, effort, and perseverance I put into this piece but need to continue working on my style and personal growth as an artist.
